Different Types of Human Memory

Different Types of Human Memory

The process whereby memories are forged into the Mental system is a remarkable one that is often misunderstood. But by studying the nature of memory, we gain a higher insight in to the intricate workings of this most vital aspect of the human brain. Some compare the human memory to a tape recorder-yet it is not so simple. While memory can serve as a retainer for key data that we want to "re-play" over and over again, it is a more dynamic and complex mechanism. In addition to storing information, it also allows us to recall feelings, sensations, images, as well as carry out basic functions such as talking.

Different Types of Human Memory

Since human memory is such a complex system, it cannot be nailed down to an exact science. In fact, cognitive psychologists working in thefield of memory often have disagreeMents. What has been established is that there are three main types of human memory -sensory, short term and long term-plus a fourth related faculty called the working memory.

When we speak of "sensory memory," we are referring to the few split seconds that follows the initial perception of an object. If you are able to briefly look at something and immediately memorize its details, then that is an instance of sensory memory. Usually, in these cases, when you are only able to see something for a few split seconds, you might feel like you saw a lot more than you are able to describe.

Some of the data that is perceived in a sensory memory will subsequently be transferred to a short term> memory. We call short term memory the ability to recall something from several seconds to a minute ago.

There is also a type of memory that is referred to as working memory. It can be viewed as a form of short term memory, in that it refers to the limited store that is needed in order for certain Mental tasks to be performed. Whereas short term memory is rooted in duration, working memory is defined by purpose. Baddeley's Model of Working Memory defines three components to this type of memory -the verbal store, the visuo-spatial sketchpad, and the central executive, which determines control and rehearsal.

Finally, there is long term memory. Unlike short term and sensory memories, which disappear in abrief amount of time, long term refers to memories that can be stored for a period of up to several years. Psychologists disagree on how long term memory works. Some argue that a long term memory remains in the brain forever, but this is impossible to prove, as there has never been a human being who has lived forever!

While it was once thought that there was no real determining factor between what made in short term memory and long term one, research has since established that the brain contains numerous systems of memory and that information is constantly being transferred among these various systems. Hence, the ongoing research in to the mysterious nature of how memory works.

Smart Ram

Smart Ram

My main system only has 3 gigabytes of ram but after all my applications loads I end up with a little over 1.2 gigabytes of ram before I start surfing and opening windows. How do I know this? I use a program from within a program. It is called Smart Ram and comes with Advanced Systems Care. You can use the free version endlessly but it is a very smart thing to buy the Pro license as soon as possible.

Now I know that most people can't really afford so much ram which is why it is critical that you know about Smart Ram because with it you can measure just how much your system can handle before it reaches a crucial point and crashes or locks up on you. This can be frustrating and downright costly if you are in the middle of doing somethingsuper important and your system crashes or locks up on you. Sometimes I've found that by deep cleaning the ram it releases the system but this is not something that you can count on 100% however it is often a choice that can be tried if all else fails.

Smart Ram allows you to monitor your ram status and to clear out the unused portions that windows programs often leaves occupied when you are no longer using or going to use the program. This allows the user to keep tabs of how many browser windows and other windows open source without slowing the system down.

This wonderful program comes bundled inside of Advanced Systems Care which does a splendid Job of keeping your registry optimized which is always changing and thus needs to be primed at least (1)ounces per day depending on your use of the Computer.

You can download a free copy at IOBit and highly recomMended that you upgrade as soon as possible to get the full power of the program. The free version you must remember to run and the paid version runs in the background to keep an eye on your system. Like hiring the programmers to run diagnostics on your system in the background for a very small price and the program is 100% yours with free updates. If you really want to take care of your Computer from the inside out then Advanced Systems Care along with Smart Ram.

I might as well Mention that Smart DefragMent can be run through Advanced Systems Care but it is not bundled with the software but is a separate download and is also free. Smart DefragMentis very robust and does deep down to defragment of your files on your hard drive which is really important if you want to keep your machine running at its peak. We all would like our systems to keep running at the same peak speed as when we brought it home and with the right tools it is possible to help the system to maintain that peak performance feel.

Disclaimer: Neither Ample Green Foundation or the (Thom Dickey) do not take any responsibility for your choice in using this software. You must always read the documentation very carefully and always back up your system before you do anything new to your system such as editing the system files.
